Hät 1/72 El Cid heavy infantry

I bought this set for different purposes. The main one was to make some Gondor infantry units, but I also wanted them as Normans, maybe from the South, and as a generic Fantasy guards.

I went first for these last ones as I need them for my next solo campaign, but after that I will probably paint some men of Gondor.

As you can see, I'm still experimenting with Xpress paints.

  1. A perfectly successful experiment it seems to us. You understood very well how to combine Xpress colours with traditional ones on these cute minis. Can you give us an example of what colour types you used on a single mini out of these?

  2. I'm just using them as I see they fit. I'd like to try some blending in the future. Let's take the figure with the dragon in the shield for example, first I paint metal with Vallejo oily steel, wash of Xpress black lotus, drybrush with natural steel and then again with Vallejo model air steel. Then I applied Xpress paints Plague green for the tunic, Imperial yellow for the under tunic and martian orange for the sash, wasteland brown for the spear staff, copper brown for boot and leather straps and dwarf skin for face and hands. After that I gave Vallejo green wash to the tunic and Army Painter Flesh wash to sash and sepia wash to sash and under tunic. I only gave a light to the skin with Vallejo pale skin paint. that's it. I did the same with the others but with different paints and washes.

    1. Oh! I forgot to tell you that I painted the serpent in the shield with Xpress space grey. Xpress are excellent for painting free hand shields as the paint is very easy to move, it's like painting with ink. I painted the shields with crosses with Xpress as well in an instant.

    1. Thank you Ben but most of the merit is from Xpress ;-)
