SYW army completed

 So I have finished the SYW British army to play Maurice with a friend. Below you can see the units I need to paint to have the proyect done.

I've been told that I may need another two or three units of infantry and cavalry for a full game, but first I'll try the game and if I like it, then I order and paint some more in Christmas holidays as I won't have time after Summer holidays.

SYW 10mm British for Maurice

First of all I have to say that I have never been interested in black powder periods. The reason why I have started this is because it is the only way to play versus an opponent. Adding to this it is the fact that it is a small project as we are using 10mm miniatures and putting only two soldiers on each base, so they are a small number of figures to paint and cheap too, as everything didn't cost me more than 40€, bases included.

So my opponent has passed me the ruleset Maurice to play with him, and after giving it a quick read I decided that I like the rules. My opponent and friend designed for me and army consisting in eight infantry units plus one extra if I am the attacker, three units of cavalry which I am painting at the moment, one unit of artillery consisting in three cannons with crew, and finally a general and one character.

Below you can see all the infantry (nine units in total) I am going to need already painted, based, flocked and varnished, so I hope to have our first game on August, and I will publish the report in my blog.

I made the flags with a bit of paper that I glued with white glue and then painted.

 

I thought that so few miniatures were going to look ridiculous but I am quite happy how they have turned out now that I can see them in formation on the table.

Polar Fox Boar boyz for Warmaster.

This is my last unit of Boar boyz for Warmaster and as the title says they are from Polar Fox.
 

As you can see below, they are wider than they should be and it gets difficult to fit them in Warmaster bases.

Below you can see a comparative shot of three command stands. From left to right, Polar Fox, Savage Orcs from GW and normal Boar boyz from GW as well. The ones from Polar Fox are noticeably bulkier than GW's.
 

Below similar picture but from the other side, being Polar Fox the third ones from left to right. As you may notice, they are also less crispier and detailed than their GW counterparts.
 

If I had to choose between GW and PF I'd choose GW without doubt, but I wanted to see those from Polar Fox in the flesh so I ordered one unit instead of trying to get one original on Ebay. Overall, they blend without any problems with GW and add variation. Below you can see a full brigade with twelve stands.
 

Warmaster Goblin wolf riders

I had the plastic BOFA wolf riders but as I sold them because I didn't quite like them in plastic and also because they were smaller than the metal ones, I bought one unit from Polar Fox to complete at least one brigade of them.

The one with the lasso is supposed to be the standard of the unit.

Below you can see from left to right, the command stands from Copplestone's, Polar Fox and GW. Copplestone's are the biggest, Polar Fox almost as big as GW's.

The originals from GW are still the best sculpted, detailed, crispy and the cutest of all.

Here you can see a brigade made of four units.

 

Reinforcements for my Roman army

I finished four bases or units that I had half done time ago for my Roman army, though I don't know why I'd  bother as I cannot find anyone to have a game. I would happily play Art of war, Hail Caesar, to the strongest or even Impetus with them, but no one will show up.

Anyway, here you have two units of Cretan archers and two of Gallic cavalry, all from Magister Militum.

Painting the last and end of my army

I have just sold both my WWII 10mm German and Russian armies to the same customer who understandably asked me to finish painting six vehicles I have never finished because I am that lazy.

So here they are, after playing German for years without big cats because I did not felt like painting them, I finally painted them for this customer, and now they are leaving me without a single game. I just hope their new owner gives them many battles!

Numidians

It's summer time and I am having plenty of time to finish some projects. After painting six points of Romans for SAGA now I finished my Numidian small allied army for my Romans for the The Art of War rules.

Not much really, but with one blister of cavalry and one of infantry plus one elephant give miniatures enough to play as an ally army.

Rome rises

I finished the first part of my army, the Roman troops; the second part, allied Numidians, Celtiberians plus some Cretan archers, German cavalry and other auxiliaries will have to wait until next summer.
So here you can see my all Roman army based for the art of war rules but also for Hail Caesar. 10 mm. miniatures from Magister Militum except commands which are from Pendraken, this last being the best customer service around from Leon.

I bought Cesarean legionaires and Republican Triarii so I could use them together as both Republican and Cesarean armies because as far as I know, there are no evidence of how the helmet crests really were.

The full army so far as per the art of war rules. Three legions with two Velites, four legionnaires and one Triarii each, plus three cavalry units.

Legionnaires. Slightly smaller than the rest of the army and with a lot of line moulds to clean off. I suppose they are very old moulds.

A commission

Time ago I sold my Baccus EIR army, that you can see in my 10mm gallery, to a guy from UK and he liked so much that he asked me to paint some more, and here they are:

Now in my area Art of War is the new sexy thing and I am repented of having sold them :(
 

Homemade 10 mm sand bags and bard wire.

Making a break from painting 28 mm fantasy miniatures I made this defensive stuff for my 10 mm WWII armies. 
For the sandbags I used rice and for the wire a metal thread used for making collars and bracelets.

 

A bunker is a bunker

I wanted a bunker for my 10mm soldiers from Eastern Front, and wanted one in which you can put the soldiers inside. I thought about making a removable roof but seemed too complicated, and then remembered those bunkers White Dwarf made for Epic, using a cavalry base for the roof and leaving the back opened.
My infantry bases are 3X3 cm. and artillery pieces like ATs are 4X3 cm, so I needed a bunker of 4X4 cm. that could contain either, so I took a 40X40 mm. base and some plasticard I had lying around, and made this bunker.
Maybe is not historically accurate but it works!

Pendraken painting competition 2015!

It's that time of the year again and I always like to participate to support this great initiative of a painting competition in the grand scale, though I never win due to my poor painting skills as well as the high level in the competition.
I am doing it for the fun of it; the more the merrier! 
This time I will participate with the yet to finish project of the Eastern Front.
