I had this fellow from long ago, with the idea of painting it someday to be the general of my Chaos army, so now with the TOW hype I finally did it.
I am not happy with the final result but it is done. I mean, it is not bad but neither good. Maybe painting 1/72 scale for much time has spoilt a bit my already average level painting skills.
Anyway, I always thought the pose of both rider and horse had a close resemblance to the Death Dealer picture by the master Frank Frazetta. What do you think?
Below you have two more pictures to let you see the special cloak made of defeated armies this character is wearing: Bretonnia, Empire, Dark Elves and Orks.
I see no problem with your skills here. He looks excellent and I can see the similarity to Deathdealer. Very nice work on the cloak.
ReplyDeleteThank you Alan. It's OK but I feel I could have done it better :)
DeleteIn our opinion the result works well: certainly in the colours it is very different from the restricted palette and dark tones of Frazetta's Death Dealer, but the idea of a hero who cloaks himself in defeated flags is fascinating. We had seen it for more colourful races such as orcs, but chaos heroes also love trophies.
ReplyDeleteIf it doesn't ruin your paintjob, perhaps a few blood stains and a few splashes of mud on the cloak would make everything more gruesome and dark...
I thought about it as those flags have been in battles after all, but I was afraid of spoling what I got so far by adding something incorrectly, so I decided to play safe and move onto the next unit.
ReplyDeleteI think he looks really great as he is Javier and definitely a bit of Death Dealer about him - the cloak made from defeated armies' flags is genius! You could maybe try weathering it with oil paints if you've got them and wanted that look? Dilute the paint quite thin, slap it on and dry it with a hair dryer - then wipe away what you don't want with white spirit on a cotton bud - careful not to scrub too hard and damage the paint! It will darken your colours a bit but you have the bonus of being able to clean most of it off except in any recesses you can't get at if the result isn't what you're after! It'd work well on the warrior's armour and horse's barding too.
DeleteThank you very much for your kind words and help. The cloak is fantastic, as all Gamezone miniatures; it's a shame they stopped sculpting. I like to weather my WWII figures but, I don't know why, the Fantasy ones I like them bright. And it has been decades since the last time I used enamels ;-)
DeleteCheers!
I like your work, here, Javier. I recently read your post on Aaron's blog about campaigning and followed the link here. In your bio, you state that finding opponents has been difficult. Have you considered remote wargaming? I have been wargaming with gamers from all over the globe for three years now via Zoom. Latest game was on Friday. If this is of interest, please visit my blog at, https://palousewargamingjournal.blogspot.com/.
ReplyDeleteJon
Hello Jonathan, it's very nice of you to pay a visit to invite me for a game with Zoom. Thuth is I've considered that type of gaming before but haven't tried yet. Anyway, now I just got into a gaming club and don't have time for more, but maybe later. Best regards and thank you :)
DeleteFantastic work Javier! The cloak made of defeated enemies' flags is a masterpiece!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ben, it's a really good sculpture from Gamezone with a lot of potential :)
