These are part of the figures of the Caesar Elves box. Now I'm painting some more from with two handed swords.
Seeing the figures so close makes me realise how much my eyesight has worsened as they look splendid to me when I look at them on the table, but the close ups show something different.
Anyway, these figures are beautifully sculpted and with a lot of detail and a very clean cast with almost no flash. A joy to paint them.
A nice pair of archer units: does the manufacturer refer to them as "wood elves" or simply elves? We note that most are unarmored, while one miniature has upper body armor and a pointed helmet.
ReplyDeleteAlso curious is the miniature of the female elf: while the males are fully clothed, she is half-naked. It seems to us that the sculptor took inspiration from different models: for some from a sober iconography that goes back to Tolkien's elves, for her to the fantasy iconography of half-naked characters in the style of Conan the Barbarian. It would be interesting to trace these two different trends in the fantasy illustrations and miniatures of the past decades ...
Thanks Rodor. I think it's just Elves. Regarding the female I think it is easier than what you say; I'd say it's just how females are usually depicted in most Fantasy settings. There is another female in this box who I'm currently painting and she is wearing a long dress that completely covers her, but she is not a fighter but a civilian, a different rol.
Deletelovely work again Javier! The Caesar figures are great and you have made them awesome!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ben. Right now I think Caesar miniatures are the best sculpts around.
DeleteGreat looking 1/72nd figures, Javier!
ReplyDeleteCheers Dean :)
DeleteI would say they look splendid close up as well, especially for 1/72 scale figures!
