UN troops

I've painted some UN troops to game in Africa with the same box of figures I used for my mercs, the Esci NATO troops.

They are painted like previous ones with just block paint and wash, but I think this time they are a little less dirty and with some extra lights that I did by wiping excess of wash with a clean wet brush. I think their uniforms are good, and although the blue on helmets and berets should be lighter, I'm happy how they turned out in the end.

  1. Nice troops - and clever the idea of "cleaning up" the light areas by removing the wash - we've seen on the web doing the same thing with oil paint inks, but haven't tried it yet.
Maybe it depends on our ignorance, but is the camouflage uniform of the UN troops always the same, or does each country that supplies the "blue helmets" adopt its own?

  2. Thank you Rodor. Yes, it's an easy and effective way of adding some lights.
I'm not an expertise on the matter but I think they wear their own uniforms and then add the blue of UN to helmets, berets, pads and vests. But there is also a colour called NATO green and another called washed green so I'm not sure. In my case, I chose a washed dark olive colour to resemble pictures from the 80's in Africa.

  3. They usually wear their own uniforms. Even their helmets are supplied from their own armies. -Therefore variations in the blue color of them may vary a lot, from when it was painted or by which country. It reminds me of my own project:

    1. Hello Roger and thank you for your answer as I wasn't 100% sure about their uniforms. I had seen your FUBAR UN skirmisht BATREP which inspired me to do something similar in 1/72.

    2. Are you building large armies for your game? I think FUBAR are very good rules. I plan touse them for games this year as well.

    3. I'm afraid not. A box of them is all I will paint and use for skirmishes only. Besides, I'm looking again to 28mm, sigh. Yes, FUBAR is great and also very good for solo games.
