My seven years old son has painted his first miniature. It's one from that big bag of plastic soldiers from Warzone that I bought a couple of years ago for my son to paint them. He finally has started to pain them, but after the first one he told me he wants to paint Orcs like the ones I have!
He chose all the colours and painted by himself all alone except for the final black wash and varnish. He also wanted to flock the base with snow instead of grass (I helped him with that too). I think he did it quite well and I have my hopes of seeing him painting my lead pile in a short future :)

Now that's a good start! Very nice work!
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteHe made it in two days. On the first day I explained him how to use a brush and when he retook the painting about two weeks later, he still remembered how to use it properly.
I'm planning to start playing with him co-op games of Chain Reaction as soon as he finish a squad of 5 soldiers. Hopefully in summer holidays :)
I can't say enough how awesome this is, painting with the kids and getting them into the hobby like this is a great way to share what we do and bond that much more. As for his paintjob, it is downright solid, I've seen many an adult paintjob come out looking much, much worse.
ReplyDeleteand in the interest of sharing:

Whoa Mik, you little girl is a crack painter. With olnly 6 years and she has pulse enough to paint the leather strapes and the eyes! I like the touch of blood on the sword and I love her little face frowned in concentration. Regretfully I didn't think about taking a picture of my son while painting.
DeleteI agree with you it is a fantastic experience to share your hobby with your child and talk about many things while painting the minis. It was an experience I was so much looking for and that I'll repeat again for sure.
cheers,
Only Seven Years' old? Blimey, he's better than me already ;) well done Blacksmith, you've trained him well - the Force is strong in him.

I'm a proud jedi father :)
DeleteYour apprentice has a focused eye, steady hand, and works magic with the brush! He will serve you well, Master.
ReplyDeletehehehe, I hope so Jay :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so much better than anything I painted at seven years old! He's clearly a very talented lad.
ReplyDeleteAt seven years old I did not even know what was a figure or that it could be painted :D
DeletePinta mejor que yo XD promete!!
ReplyDeleteHombre, lo estuve ayudando en todo momento pero así y todo creo que lo ha hecho bastante bien. Yo con 7 años ni siquiera sabía lo que era pintar figuras! :)
