15 mm Sci-fi table.

So after painting a few minis I needed some terrain to play and I did this:

I took a wood DBA board (60x60 cm) a friend gave me, and glued onto it free donwnloadable printed paper sci-fi tiles and then covered everything with adhesive plastic film used for school books (I don't know its name, not even in my mother tongue, LOL).

Then I went to a wood shop and the carpenter there cut me those walls for 6 €. I have half of them painted as concrete, and I am going to paint the other half as steel walls.

Notice that I ordered to make the walls of the same wide as the squares in the tiles, so that the squares can be used for movement and measuring for games like HOF Fire Team.
I will use old Space Hulk doors for those corridors...

Fast, cheap and portable. Later on maybe I will make better terrain, but for now it will work as it is, and I can concentrate on painting more miniatures!

  1. Hola Javier,
Nice concept & you can't beat something that you have done yourself.
I had plans for a similar project.
I think those floors are from Starwars Miniatures, I used similar to them to make my spaceport. See hear http://castrarunis.blogspot.com.mt/2016/07/atvs-starport-stuff.html.

Do you know they have walls also? They would be great for those walls.
or you can use these - http://castrarunis.blogspot.com.mt/2015/08/space-hulk-terrain.html

    Keep it up

  2. Hey Zlord, thank you for your nice comments, and awesome blog of yours BTW.
I don't remember where did I get those tiles from, as I downloaded and printed years ago, though I didn't used them till now.
    Cheers!

  3. You might think about painting the extra blocks as random colors. With a little bit of effort, those would make for great shipping containers. Scuff them up, paint doors on the ends, maybe stencil a shipping liner name or two, and you can stack them up to make multi-level battlefields, too.

    1. That's a very good idea Warren, except the blocks are a little big for containers IMHO, and I'm afraid the few spare ones I have, are neeede for more walls :)
I may use your idea if I find smaller blocks.
      Cheers!

    1. Hey, I've learned a new word, "bespoke"! :)
You're right Monty, nothing better than a homemade bespoke board.
      Cheers!

  7. Looks very good, and is certainly flexible. Add some containers and some buildings over time and you have a number of different urban settings.

I think "contact paper" is what you were referring to with "adhesive plastic film used for school books". Sticky, clear, and used to cover things... sounds about right.

  8. Contact paper must be. Another word learned ;-)
