This blog is to share my main hobby which is painting and wargaming with miniatures. I paint and play historics, fantasy and sci-fi, from 6 mm to 28 mm.
That is an awesome idea (playing an old SL scenario). Great models and terrain too. Very cool!
Yes, it's an idea I had from long ago, but I neeed a ruleset which allow me to play it with my son. Thank you!
I remember playing that scenario years ago...great fun and even better with figures!
Funny thing is though I played SL a lot I never played this scenario :)
Running SL scenarios is a great idea but whenever I have ever briefly looked at it in the past, the translation of terrain fro detailed hexes to less detailed miniatures table got to me. And excellent going - 3 games with your son!
Thank you Shaun, I'm planning to play with him as much as possible during this summer. it's great to see how his little mind works and develops...apart from the fun between son and dad sharing games.Regarding SL terrain, you have to abstract a lot but it is not that difficult. If you look at my table and the map of Velikiye Luki from SL you will see they share two big hills in the centre, a road from one border to another, and some houses and forests. Enough for a game. Cheers,
Javier,I do love the fact you're getting games in with your son, I need to do the same!Wow, two tough fights for the Germans. I like your idea of firefights occurring when a flare is shot up, and the firefights certainly made things hard for the Germans, but to me it looks like the Germans were going to have a hard time no matter what.I don't know anything about the SL scenario, but I see the Russians on two hills in the center, and the Germans have to cross a bunch of open ground to get to them, and the Germans can't even see the enemy until the Germans have gotten very close by moving into the open. And then the Germans were outnumbered too!Maybe try it with the Russians starting on the top base edge and the Germans starting on the right base edge, with the Germans rushing for the left base edge and the Russians rushing down to stop them?In any case, thanks for posting, and I look forward to more batreps!V/R,Jack
Jack thank you very much for your comments, I appreciate it. I tried to be as faithful as possible to SL scenarios (BTW I have hundreds, you if you want them just let me know it), but you're right and the scenario needs some tweaking. I think deploying the Russians slightly backwards to allow Germans to reach cover, and not allowing starshells for the first two turns as Ivan said, it would be enough.Russians are many but they can only move when they see an enemy or if they have a leader with them.More coming soon!Cheers,
